The saree is often said to be made by the blouse. Depending on the readymade blouse you wear, a saree can be dressed up or down. While the saree has remained timeless, designer blouses have transformed in recent years. Today, instead of dull, ordinary blouses, you can wear halter tops, bandeau blouses, and even a shirt! So, how do you decide which blouse to pair with that stunning saree you just received from your mother? Continue reading because we have you covered, literally.

At the time of writing, over 40 different blouse designs can be worn with your saree. We’ve stopped counting, so there could be more. So, how do you pick the perfect blouse from the plethora of options? The ideal designer blouse meets the following criteria: It must
a) Match your saree perfectly,
b) Be appropriate for the occasion,
c) Flatter you to the best of your ability.
Blending with the saree: Using a printed blouse and layering it with a printed saree is a recipe for disaster. Unless, of course, you perfectly match the design on the saree to the one on the blouse piece. The general rule is that one of the blouses or sarees must be plain and the other printed. Prints and embroidery cannot be mixed unless they have the same motifs and are in the same color range.

Adapting to the situation: You can dress up your saree with a blouse. With a bit of imagination, you can turn a drab saree into a fun, flirty ensemble. However, being playful and flirtatious may not be appropriate in all situations. In a professional setting, for example, you want to appear well-dressed and not overly flirtatious.

Flattering: This is where the magic happens. While any blouse designs can be worn, some designs will be more positive on you than others. Finding out what looks good on you is an art as well as a science. Consider wearing a sleeveless or strappy blouse if your arms are toned and lovely. To show off your killer abs, consider wearing a bandeau blouse or a crop top. On the other hand, if you want to conceal a food baby, a peplum blouse will work wonders. Discover what flatters you and make the most of it.
