Sherwani: Dressing for Today’s Special Occasions

A sherwani is an Indian ethnic wear for men. It consists of a long coat with an oversized collar, worn over a shirt and trousers, typically accompanied by a scarf. It’s an essential part of the groom’s wedding attire and is commonly worn at other formal events such as college convocations and Indian Independence day celebrations. Sherwanis come in various colors and fabric styles that can be chosen to suit your taste or fashion needs.

The History of Sherwanis

The first known mention of sherwanis can be found in the old Sanskrit texts, which date back to the time of the Mughal Empire. The word “sherwani” comes from “sharavani,” which means “of silk.” Royals and aristocrats originally wore it as a court dress.

The British Raj popularized sherwanis among commoners intending to replicate an Indian aristocrat’s appearance. They would dress up in a similar outfit for a few minutes before going back to their regular clothes. Sherwanis became popular with mainstream Indians after India gained independence from British rule. Sherwanis are worn at weddings, college gatherings, and other formal events such as galas and exhibitions.

Styles and Colors

There are many styles and colors to choose from when shopping for a sherwani. It’s important to know which style and color you want before you start looking so that you won’t go in circles trying to figure it out. The most popular color is white, but it is also common for people to wear a sherwani in cream, pink, or blue. You can find a style that best fits your needs by looking at the available types below:

* The “Imperial” Style: This style has a single row of buttons sewn onto the front and comes with an accompanying cloak (known as a “choga”), which is typically used for weddings or other formal occasions like college convocations.

* The “Peshwa” Style: This style has two rows of buttons sewn onto the front and can be worn without the choga cloak.

* The “Phulkari” Style: This style features embroidery work on both sides of the coat in colorful Indian motifs known as “phulkari” stitching.

Fabric Types

There are many different types of fabric that sherwanis are made with. Here is a list of the most common ones:

– Wool Sherwanis: Wool is an excellent fabric type for sherwanis because it provides warmth during the winter months and breathes well throughout the summer.

– Cotton Sherwanis: A cotton sherwani will make you more comfortable in warmer climates.

– Synthetic Sherwanis: Synthetic fabrics are preferable for their wrinkle-resistant qualities and easy upkeep.

– Silk Sherwanis: This fabric is lightweight and smoother than most other options, making it perfect for formal occasions.

Sizing and Care

Dress sizing can be confusing, and it’s hard to know if the “L” really stands for Large or if you’re supposed to order an XL. One of the most important things to keep in mind when selecting a sherwani is the size and measurements of your body, and this will help ensure that your clothes fit correctly and that you get the most out of your purchase.

Wash: While we offer our customers new clothes, we recommend washing any new clothing before wearing it for the first time. The reason is simple: you don’t know how it was made and what it has been exposed to while being transported. To avoid this, wash clothes before wearing them. To do so, place your new clothes in a sink or tub with cold water and detergent; agitate around and scrub with a brush; rinse thoroughly and air dry on a towel.

Don’t wear: If you buy something online, you might not be able to try on the piece beforehand. This means that while shopping for sherwanis, you may need to consider what kind of event it will be worn at to know if it’s appropriate for such an event. For instance, some people may not want to wear yellow at an Indian Independence Day celebration because it’s associated with Hinduism.

With so many options on the market, it can be hard to decide what type of Sherwani is best for you. Here are some general guidelines on what to look for when picking out your perfect Sherwani to make the decision easier.

-First, think about the occasion you are dressing for. If it’s more of a formal event, black would be a great color to wear. If the event is more casual, then light colors are desired.

-Second, think about your body type. If you are taller or more extensive, you may want to go with a long coat to make you look slimmer. If you are shorter, you can wear more of a full-length coat.

-Third, think about fabric type. Wool is excellent for winter, and cotton is suitable for summer.

-Finally, find out what size you are!

A size 42 will be around 9 feet in length, while a size 34 will be about 8 feet.

If you are unsure about sizing, it is always better to go with a longer coat than a shorter one.
